- Social welfare includes a series of activities and related social institutions through which it improves the quality of human conditions by the enhancement of human dignity and public good. The Department of Social Welfare is a graduate program dedicated to educating social worker practitioners and scholars for a range of leadership, research, teaching, and advanced practice roles in the profession. Our educational emphasis is on preparing students for professional responsibility in the field of social welfare and the institutional systems that comprise it. Most graduates assume academic positions, while others pursue careers as instructors or professors, researchers, social work practitioners, policy analysts or administrators in various governments, private and nonprofit agencies.
