Professor Seong Tae-yeon from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering of the College of Engineering was elected Editor of IEEE Electron Device Letters, a renowned international academic journal in the field of electronics and optical materials. He began his three-year term as editor on February 1.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is one of the most prestigious scientific societies, in which researchers in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, physics, mathematics, and materials from more than 150 countries share and discuss the latest research results. It has about 350,000 members around the world.

Professor Seong, aged 61, was elected editor of the journal in recognition of his outstanding research achievements in the fields of compound semiconductor materials, device processing, and optical devices. In his new position, he will do a preliminary review of articles, select peer reviewers, make editorial decisions, and ensure publication of the journal for the optoelectronic and photonic device field (optical semiconductor device and process technology).

Professor Seong has published over 480 SCI papers thus far and holds 160 domestic and foreign patents. He was elected Fellow of the Institute of Physics (IOP) in 2008, the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) in 2013, the Electrochemical Society (ECS) in 2017, and the Materials Research Society (MRS) in 2018.
