The Global MIM course (G-MIM) jointly operated by the Graduate School of Business Administration and CEMS MIM has won the CEMS Business Project of the Year Award 2022.

The Business Project of the Year Award is part of the ‘Business Project’, a core program of CEMS MIM, and awards are given to the best project from among the projects submitted by the 34 CEMS member schools each year. From among more than 200 projects, the Korea University G-MIM course was selected as the winning team this year. This award is particularly meaningful in being the first award given to a non-European member school in the history of CEMS. The award ceremony was held at the CEMS graduation ceremony held in Cairo, Egypt, on December 2nd (Friday), and advisor Professor Weon-sang Yoo (Korea University Business School) and student representative Laura Kassandra Kammin took the podium.

Only the best business school from each country can qualify for membership to the ‘CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education’ (CEMS) which refers to the worldwide association of prestigious business schools. In Korea, only the Korea University Business School has qualified. Korea University acquired full membership in 2015, and there is a total of 34 CEMS member schools including Cornell University in the U.S., The London School of Economics and Political Science in the U.K., HEC Paris in France, Ivey Business School of Western University in Canada, Keio University in Japan, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in China, and the National University of Singapore.

The Graduate School of Business Administration is the only regular member in Korea to participate in the CEMS Global Alliance, an association of world-renowned business schools, and operates the Global MIM (Master in Management) program. The G-MIM course is a course that allows multiple acquisition of CEMS MIM (Master in International Management) certificates along with a master's degree in business administration from Korea University. Students must complete one semester of the Global MIM (Master in Management) course at Korea University and complete one semester at one of the CEMS partner schools. Since this course requires an 8-week overseas internship and certification in three languages, it provides practical assistance in cultivating students' international insights and building a global career.

The theme of the award-winning business project this year is ‘Marketing Strategy for Nature Co-Design Creativity Education Program for EU Secondary Schools’. A team of 5 students from 4 CEMS universities carried out this project in the ‘Global Business Project’ class of Korea University’s G-MIM, and completed the project in cooperation with YOZMA, a partner company, under the guidance of Professor Weon-sang Yoo of the Business School. In this class, a total of 6 teams have carried out corporate projects at companies including Hyundai Motor Company, LG Chem, Amore Pacific, Cartier, and Qualcomm.

The ‘Global Business Project’ class, a program unique to G-MIM, is a project that solves actual business problems with CEMS partners or social partners and is a required courses. Each project team typically consists of 3 to 5 CEMS students, and the project is supervised by a company and an advisor. Of the projects completed in this class, the most excellent are submitted to CEMS, and the winning team of the ‘Business Project of the Year’ is finally selected through a rigorous screening by the CEMS committee.

Dean of the Graduate School of Business, Sang-yong Kim said, “Winning the 'Business Project of the Year Award' is an outstanding achievement by the Korea University Graduate School of Business Administration in competition with the world's best business schools. I would like to express our gratitude to the students who worked hard to carry out the project, and emphasize that we will spare no support towards G-MIM achieving good results next year.”
