Degree Dissertations Information on applying for exemption from foreign language test

In accordance with Article 38 of Chapter 4 of the General Graduate School Regulations, applications for exemption from the foreign language Exam for Degree Dissertations are now being accepted. Please be sure to submit your exemption application by the deadline.
※ You can check whether you meet the criteria for foreign language examination exemption on the portal (KUPID).
Go to KUPID(Korean.ver) → 학적/졸업 → 각종시험 신청/확인 → 외국어시험 면제신청 → 신청화면 and upload a scanned copy of the official foreign language proficiency exam results obtained within two years prior to the application date.
※ For domestic students (South Korean nationals), apply in a foreign language other than Korean (English or a second foreign language: French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Norwegian).
For international students, apply in a foreign language other than your native language (based on your home country's language: English or French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Norwegian, Korean).
[Exemption Application for Foreign Language Exam]
※ There are no exceptions to the deadline, so please adhere strictly to the application period ※
Eligibility: Master's and Doctoral Degree students, as well as integrated master's and doctoral program students in the General Graduate School.
Application Period: From 10:00 AM on March 13,(Wed.) to 5:00 PM on March 27,(Wed.) (both portal system and direct submission)
※ There are no exceptions for the deadline ※
◆ Note: There will be no separate remedy procedures for the assessment application schedule for April 2024 thesis evaluation.
Application Procedure:
a. Official Foreign Language Test Score: Upload a scanned copy of an official foreign language test score that is still valid based on the application date.

Go to KUPID(Korean.ver) → 학적/졸업 → 각종시험 신청/확인 → 외국어시험 면제신청 → 신청화면 and upload a scanned copy of the official foreign language
b. If you submitted an overseas degree certificate upon admission, you do not need to submit the degree certificate separately.
- If applying for exemption based on an overseas degree, refer to the example of exemption application as the attachment.
※ If you did not submit a foreign university diploma when you entersd the university, you must bring the original diploma for verification or Apostille
- Verification location: Central Library (Graduate School) Room 127, Graduate School Administration Team / Verification hours: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Lunch break: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM)
c. Those who have obtained a grade of B or higher in a substitute language course or have passed the internal graduation English test do not need to apply for exemption.
- Check the pass status on the portal: KUPID - Academic Records/Graduation -> Apply/Confirm Various Examinations -> View Pass Status
d. Those who have obtained a grade of B or higher in the regular Korean language course (Level 2 or higher) offered Korea University Korean Langauage Center(KLC) or Sejong International Education Institute
- Upload a scanned copy of the tran
Confirmation Date for final Exemption Application for the 1st Semester of the 2024 Academic Year: Scheduled for April 19, 2024 (Fri.)
(Access through KUPID: Academic Records/Graduation -> Apply/Confirm Various Examinations -> View Pass Status)
Notes:
a. Starting from the 2nd semester of the 2023 academic year, the validity period of official language test scores may vary
depending on the issuing institution. Please check the exemption criteria or special conditons
b. The validity period of the score sheet is provided in the attachment.
c. If a score is expiring of during the application period, upload it before expiration date and inform the foreign
language test coordinator by phone
d. If you did not submit an overseas degree certificate upon admission, you must bring the original certificate to the
Graduate School Administration Team for verification.
e. Graduates of the Regular Korean language course from KLC should scan and submit the tran.
f. The English test for internal graduation qualification will be considered until the TOEIC test on April 6(Sat.), 2024.
[Alternative Language Course Information]
a. Upon obtaining a grade of B or higher after completing an alternative language course (criteria may vary depending
on the graduate school), it will be considered as passing the foreign language examination.
※ Eligibility criteria for course application vary by graduate school, so please inquire at your graduate school's
administrative office.
b. Application Procedure: Access the university's portal system -> Information Life - International Language Institute Courses -> Apply for Language Courses
