2025 K-3MT Competition – Call for Participants
Greetings,
The Office of Graduate School at Korea University is recruiting participants for the 2025 K-3MT Competition.
We encourage researchers eager to share their research with a broader audience to participate.
1. What is the 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) Competition?
The 3MT is a research presentation competition in which graduate students present their research clearly and effectively within three minutes, using a single slide, to a non-specialist audience.
First developed by The University of Queensland (Australia) in 2008, the competition is now held worldwide and aims to improve participants’ presentation skills and public communication abilities.
2. Competition Structure
A. Program Period: Aug. 2025 – Feb. 2026
B. Team Format: Individual or team (up to 3 members per team; each participant may join only one team)
C. Presentation Topic: Current thesis or research planned for submission/publication in an academic journal

3. Benefits
A. Research support funding of up to 300,000 KRW for all participants who complete basic training and the preliminary round
B. Final Round Prizes: Grand Prize: 2,000,000 KRW / Excellence Award: 1,000,000 KRW /
Popularity Award: 500,000 KRW
※ Winners must present their case at the Outcomes Forum organized by the Office of Graduate School in Jan. 2026
C. Grand Prize winners (individual/team) may receive up to 3,000,000 KRW for international academic conference participation
4. Application Guidelines
A. Eligibility: Graduate students (including registered degree candidates) and postdoctoral researchers affiliated with Korea University Seoul Campus
B. Application Deadline: By Wednesday, August 13, 2025, 17:00 (KST)
C. Required Documents: (See Attachment)
- 2025 K-3MT Competition Application Form
- Consent Form for the Collection and Use of Personal Information and Use of Recordings
- Academic Advisor's Confirmation Form
D. Submission Method: Combine all documents into a single PDF file and submit via email

5. Key Dates (Post-Application)
A. Participant Announcement: Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 16:00
B. Orientation: Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 15:00 (Location to be announced)
C. Basic Training: Wednesday, August 27, 2025, 13:15 – 16:30
1) Topics:
- Developing impactful poster and slide presentations
- Professional presentation skills
2) Lecturer: Dr. Jeffrey Robens
(Senior Trainer from the academic journal Nature / conducted in English)
※ Orientation and basic training are mandatory for all selected participants
