2026 K-3MT Competition – Call for Participants
Greetings,
The Office of Graduate School at Korea University is recruiting participants for the 2026 K-3MT Competition,
a non-curricular program supported by the 4th Phase of the BK21 Graduate Education Innovation Project.
We encourage graduate researchers who are eager to share their research with a broader audience to participate.
1. What is the 3MT (Three Minute Thesis) Competition?
The 3MT is a research presentation competition in which graduate students present their research clearly and effectively within three minutes,
using a single slide, to a non-specialist audience.
First developed by The University of Queensland (Australia) in 2008, the competition is now held worldwide
and aims to improve participants’ presentation skills and public communication abilities.
2. Competition Structure
A. Program Period: Apr. 2026 ~ Feb. 2027
B. Presentation Topic: Based on the participant’s thesis research
1) Master’s students: Current thesis topic in preparation
2) Doctoral students: Master’s thesis or current doctoral dissertation topic

3. Benefits
A. Final Round Prizes: Grand Prize: 2,000,000 KRW / Excellence Award: 1,000,000 KRW / Encouragement Award: 500,000 KRW
B. Three awardees (Grand Prize, Excellence Award, Encouragement Award) will be given the opportunity to participate in the National K-3MT Competition.
C. One selected winner will be given the opportunity to participate in the Asia-Pacific 3MT Competition(limited to doctoral students)
4. Application Guidelines
A. Eligibility: Graduate students (including registered degree candidates) at Korea University(Seoul Campus)
※ Postdoctoral researchers are not eligible
※ Previous participants of the 2025 K-3MT Competition are eligible to apply
B. Application Period: April 20 (Mon) ~ April 24 (Fri), 2026, by 17:00
C. Required Documents: (See Attachment #3)
1) Application Form
2) Consent Form for the Collection and Use of Personal Information and Use of Recordings
3) Confirmation Form for Academic Advisor
D. Submission Method: Combine all documents into a single PDF file and submit via email

5. Important Dates
A. Participant Announcement: Thursday, April 30, 2026 at 16:00
B. Orientation: Wednesday, May 7, 2026 (Time & location to be announced)
※ Orientation and basic training are mandatory for all selected participants
