2026.10.29 Views 15
The Innovation Team of the Graduate School, the Department of Political Science and International Relations, the BK21 FOUR Sociology Research and Education Program, and the SDGs Interdisciplinary Research Group “AI and Social Inequality” are pleased to present Session 03 of the AI Literacy for Social Scientists special lecture series, “Uncovering the Unseen: AI and Machine Learning in Politics, Communication, and Cognitive Science.”
In this lecture, Professor Seo Eun “Sunny” Yang of Northeastern University will show how AI and computational social science can help us study political and social phenomena that are difficult to observe directly.
First, she will use network models and hypergraph embeddings of UN General Assembly resolution co-sponsorship to reveal patterns of multilateral cooperation and coalition formation that conventional measures of state preferences may miss.
Second, she will demonstrate how machine learning and multimodal AI models can analyze political narratives and visual framing in text and images, and discuss what these tools can and cannot interpret.
Third, she will introduce research using eye tracking, virtual reality (VR), and fMRI to examine how people attend to political messages, how immersive experiences shape attitudes, and how brain connectivity relates to political predispositions.
She will also discuss the theoretical interpretation and validation needed to turn computational findings into meaningful social scientific knowledge.
We look forward to your interest and participation!
< The lecture will be delivered in English. Questions are welcome in English or Korean. >
