Joint Cooperation Projects
Application Guidelines and Restrictions
  • Duplicate applications for programs with similar topics are not allowed.
  • If project periods overlap, applicants may serve as the principal investigator (PI) for only one project, but may participate in multiple projects as a co-researcher.
    (If it is later confirmed that an individual is serving as PI for more than one project, scholarship eligibility will be revoked.)
  • Applicants may not apply as PI for multiple projects with overlapping selection periods.

Science Shop (Innovation Team, Graduate School)

This program aims to create social value by integrating community-based research and presenting the findings at the Lab-to-Life Research Festival. With the support of expert consultation and education, students can turn their lab work into impactful, real-world contributions.

  • Eligibility : Graduate students in labs affiliated with the 4th Stage BK21 Program
  • Key Activities : The program recruits research labs based on integrated research topics and provides selected teams with expert consultation and educational support
  • Program Registration : Held once a year, from Oct to Jan
  • Period : activities run for approximately 9 months
  • Benefits : A research grant of 1 million KRW is provided to each team.

SDGs Living Lab Joint Research Program (University Research Institute Industry Collaboration Center)

In collaboration with corporations and government agencies, this program promotes social contribution and problem-solving competencies through Living Lab-based industry-academia research, aiming to address community issues and contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • Eligibility : Graduate students participating in the 4th Stage BK21 Project
  • Key Activities : Teams of 2–3 graduate students collaborate on joint research project
  • Program Registration : Recruitment in the first half of the year (June)
  • Period : program runs for approximately 4–5 months
  • Benefits : A research grant of 1 million KRW is provided per team, with additional scholarships awarded based on the evaluation of the mid-term and final presentations

PBL (Project-Based Learning) Idea Competition (University Research Institute Industry Collaboration Center)

This competition aims to enhance learners’ problem-solving skills through mentor-mentee matching with corporate professionals, allowing participants to propose solutions to real-world corporate issues through academic and research collaboration. The program also strengthens participants' capacity to address industrial challenges and develop technological solutions.

  • Eligibility : Graduate students participating in the 4th Stage BK21 Program
  • Key Activities : Mentoring sessions with researchers from government agencies (e.g., Korea Automotive Technology Institute, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology, Korea Conformity Laboratories) and companies (e.g., LG Electronics, LG Chem, L&P Cosmetic, GFI, BC Card, Seoul Credit Guarantee Foundation), focused on solving proposed research topics
  • Program Registration : Recruitment held during both spring and fall semesters
  • Period : program runs for approximately 4 months
  • Benefits : A research grant of 1 million KRW per team, with additional scholarships awarded based on evaluations at the mid-term and final presentations

Aral Sea Regional Revitalization Idea Contest (University Research Institute Industry Collaboration Center)

This contest aims to deepen practical understanding of global environmental issues and strengthen problem-solving competencies through an on-site visit to the Aral Sea region in Uzbekistan and joint research with overseas universities.

  • Eligibility : Graduate students participating in the 4th Stage BK21 Program
  • Key Activities : Participants propose ideas for regional revitalization through regular mentoring with supervising professors and collaboration with partner universities in Uzbekistan
  • Program Registration : Recruitment held annually in the second half of the year
  • Period : program runs for approximately 4–5 months
  • Benefits : A research grant of 1 million KRW per team and additional living expenses covered for the on-site visit

Graduate Student Changemakers (Sustainability Management Team)

A leadership development program for future changemakers, empowering graduate students to take the lead in addressing local and global societal challenges.

  • Eligibility : Graduate students
  • Key Activities
    • Team formation led by BK21-affiliated student leaders
    • Implementation of a social contribution-focused R&D program
    • Organization of seminars, result presentations, and academic conferences
    • Development and implementation of programs addressing SDG-related issues at both local and global levels
  • Program Registration : Recruitment held annually in the first half of the year (April)
  • Period : program runs for approximately 8 months
  • Benefits : Activity funding, expert mentoring, awards and scholarships for outstanding teams, and opportunities to participate in the Changemakers Forum
